The Role:

A position is now available within the Department of Nutrition & Food Services for a Food Service Assistant. The position is available on a casual basis to cover vacancies created by annual leave and sick leave. A variety of shifts are rostered, over 7 days, to cover shifts between 6:30 am -8pm, with the greatest need being the afternoon shift 4pm-8pm.

The Food Service Assistant works as part of a team in the food service department assisting with food production, distribution and food storage to ensure patients receive high quality meals in a timely and accurate manner. The position may involve salad and sandwich preparation, assisting with patient meal set-up and delivering patient meals to the bedside. It may also involve collecting patient meal trays, kitchenhand and store person duties, dish-washing and bottle washing, deep cleaning tasks and preparation of infant formula.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Food Handling Certificate Level 1 (Basic Food Safety).
  • Previous experience in the health industry or hospitality setting is desirable
  • Individuals who have qualifications and experience in cooking will also be an advantage, as we advocate cross training in our food services kitchen positions
  • Great availability and flexibility to backfill positions as required
