Guthrie Child Care Centre is a beautifully located; highly regarded Tresillian based 42 places Long Day Care Centre and is seeking a get-up-and-go trained Cook for a part-time, maternity leave position.

Guthrie caters for children 0-6 years and operates from 7:30am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday for 49 weeks per year, closing over the Christmas period. It has an excellent reputation in the local community for its spacious outdoor area, beautiful edible garden spaces, active parent network and quality trained staff.

“A” Grade Cook is required at Guthrie in a part-time, maternity leave position (for up to 12 months); working 5 days (Monday to Friday) between the hours of 9am-2pm. You will be working in a Commercial Kitchen with all facilities required. This position involves the preparation, cooking and serving of meals and special diets and is responsible for the storage of food suppliers and the maintenance of hygiene and food handling standards. Cleaning of food preparation and large areas as well as washing up plates, etc is required. The role of the cook contributes to achieving Guthrie’s goals, particularly by working to:

  • Improve the health and well-being of families with children 0-6 years of age;
  • Deliver family care services responsive to population needs by ensuring a safe, clean and comfortable environment for children.

Essential Criteria:

  • Commercial Cookery Trade Certificate or equivalent. Applicants must possess appropriate food handling qualifications. In this context, a person is a qualified cook if they hold a certificate showing they have successfully completed Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) units of competency through a registered training organisation, in menu planning, nutrition and safe food handling.
  • Previous catering experience.
  • Well develop organisational skills
  • Ability to exercise good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Current Working with Children Check.

Provided the menu planning unit of competency or nutrition unit of competency is from AQF 3 or higher hospitality, commercial cookery or health course.

Stand alone courses which meet these requirements:

  1. SIT30812 Certificate III in commercial Cookery (AQF3)
  2. SIT30807 Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery) (AQF3)
