Our new restaurant ‘Half Acre’ is a sanctuary inside city life. A curated garden eatery for people to connect with friends and family, or professionals alike. Located in South Melbourne on the grounds of the Old Mill, our 120-seat restaurant provides a unique indoor/outdoor environment, highlighting a wood-fired oven, charcoal grill and open kitchen.

We are in the search for a creative, inspiring and passionate Sous Chef to manage a wood pizza section, larder and hot section in a 150 seat restaurant for lunch and dinner on weekdays, and brunch and dinner on the weekends. Our food is plated simply, yet with elegance. Our eating style is casual and communal, using world flavours without being totally defined. Your role will involve menu creation, people management, cost management and mentoring, not to mention creating the amazing food that makes food&desire a market leader in the industry.

What we'd love you to have:

• 6+ years EXPERIENCE in industry, restaurant background only
• PASSION and CREATIVITY about food with excellent technical skills
• LEADERSHIP skills to inspire and motivate the team
• FOCUS on quality and consistency whilst controlling costs
• COMMUNICATION skills second to none
• ABILITY to work effectively in a fast-paced and large team environment
• ORGANISATIONAL and time management skills, with experience in all kitchen operations and logistical requirements
• Wood or charcoal cooking experience is favourable
• It’s an open kitchen, so personal grooming and presentation is a must!
